Football Media & Communications Coordinator

At Southport Sharks, we’re looking for a Football Media & Communications Coordinator to join our dedicated team and help us continue building a workplace our people are proud to be part of.

 

About the role

 

Working closely across both the Football and Marketing teams, this onsite position ensures consistent, engaging coverage of game days, training, and behind-the-scenes moments that strengthen the Sharks’ brand on and off the field. This role blends media liaison and digital publishing to connect our football community with members, fans, and the wider public.  The role is responsible for capturing, curating, and communicating the stories of Southport Sharks’ VFL and QAFLW programs.

 

The Responsibilities

  • Liaise with external football media including Gold Coast Bulletin, AFL Media, and local outlets to pitch stories, manage enquiries, and share updates.
  • Provide copy for previews, post-match reports, and blog articles that inform, engage, and excite fans while reflecting the Sharks’ brand voice.
  • Package content into engaging formats (e.g. highlights, graphics, reels, feature stories) that bring the football journey to life.
  • Publish timely and engaging football content across Southport Sharks’ all digital platforms and channels.
  • Actively participate in marketing and football planning sessions, providing input on content opportunities and campaign integration.
  • Always upholding confidentiality, integrity and respect in every interaction

 

This role will require regular weekend and evening availability to cover match days, events, and training sessions.

 

About you

 

The successful candidate will play a central role in continuing to drive the public voice of Southport Sharks Football, bringing the excitement of the game to life for members, fans, and the wider community.

  • Prior experience in sporting industry is preferred.
  • Experience in journalism, sport media, or community engagement.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to adapt tone across match reporting, media releases, and digital platforms.
  • Preferred degree or qualification in Communications or Media.
